You take a break out of work and go on a vacation, but your clients keep on calling and texting you on business matters. You nor I would like to be caught up in a tornado of business or office work on a serene and relaxing vacation.<\/p>\n

So how can you let your clients and co-workers know that you\u2019re out of work? A simple out-of-office auto-reply can be set on your phone for your office contacts in times of you taking a vacation or if you\u2019re sick and resting.<\/p>\n

But, for most of our surprise up until the release of the iPhone 11, iPhone users could not set an automated reply message. In this article, we are bringing you the hacks and steps for iPhone users (be it iPhone 11, or another iPhone version above, or below) to help set an out-of-office auto-reply text message<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Set iMessage auto-reply for text messages and calls<\/h2>\n

iPhone does not have a straight-away auto-response feature to set an out-of-office reply to your text messages. Therefore, we have to use a workaround to set customized auto-reply messages with iPhone\u2019s available features.<\/p>\n

The iPhone\u2019s Do Not Disturb setting is the option we will be using to set an auto-reply message. Follow the below steps to set your customized out-of-office message.<\/p>\n

Step 1:<\/strong> Launch the Settings app. Select \u2018Do Not Disturb<\/strong>\u2019 on the menu.<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/strong> Select the \u2018Allow calls From<\/strong>\u2019 option. There, select whom you wish to be contacted at times when you are in the \u2018Do not Disturb\u2019 mode.<\/p>\n

For example, if you only wish not to be contactable by your co-workers and the business clients, you can select the \u2018Favourites\u2019 option from the menu. So that, all the contacts that you group as Favourites on your Contacts app will be able to contact you, while your co-workers and other contacts cannot reach you at times you activate \u2018Do Not Disturb\u2019 mode.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> If you\u2019re setting \u2018Allow Calls From\u2019 to \u2018Favourites\u2019 option, make sure you have saved all your necessary contacts on to the Favourites section on the Phone app on your iPhone.\u00a0Or else, you can simply select \u2018No One\u2019 so this automated message will be diverted to all who text you irrespective of who they are.<\/p>\n

Step 3: <\/strong>Then, go back on to the \u2018Do Not Disturb\u2019 page, Select \u2018Auto-Reply To<\/strong>\u2019 from the menu.<\/p>\n

Step 4: <\/strong>Select \u2018All Contacts<\/strong>\u2019, if you selected either \u2018No One<\/strong>\u2019, or \u2018Favourites\u2019 for the \u2018Allow Calls From<\/strong>\u2019 section.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> If you have selected \u2018Favourites\u2019 for \u2018Allow Calls From\u2019 section, and \u2018All Contacts\u2019 for \u2018Auto-Reply To\u2019 section, then, your auto-reply message will be sent to your favorites contacts as well, if they text you when you have activated \u2018Do Not Disturb\u2019 mode. But the calls from your Favourites will still be diverted to you for answering, unlike other calls when you are in the \u2018Do not Disturb\u2019 mode.<\/p>\n

Step 5:<\/strong> Go back to the \u2018Do not Disturb\u2019 page. Select \u2018Auto-Reply<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Step 6:<\/strong> Type your out-of-office message on the text box.<\/p>\n

It can be a message like, \u201cI\u2019m out-of-office from [Starting date or time] to [End date or time]. I will respond to you as soon as possible upon my return.\u201d.<\/p>\n

This will be the text message your contacts would receive if they message you when you have activated the \u2018Do Not Disturb\u2019 setting.<\/p>\n

NOTE: <\/strong>iPhone will send a default SMS message as \u201cI\u2019m not receiving notifications. If this is urgent, reply \u2018urgent\u2019 to send a notification through with your original message.\u201d, along with your customized personal message. There is no method yet to unsend this iPhone default message.<\/p>\n

Step 7: <\/strong>Once you typed the Out-of-Office message, go back again to the \u2018Do not Disturb\u2019 page, select \u2018Activate<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Step 8: <\/strong>Select the option \u2018Manually<\/strong>\u2019 for \u2018Activate<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> The \u2018Do Not Disturb\u2019 feature is built by Apple to use when you\u2019re driving and your phone is connected to your vehicle\u2019s multi-media system via Bluetooth or through a cable. Therefore, if you select \u2018Automatically<\/strong>\u2019 or \u2018When connected to car Bluetooth\u2019 option under \u2018Activate<\/strong>\u2019, this feature would only be used when you\u2019re driving.<\/p>\n

How to manually activate the \u2018Do Not Disturb While Driving\u2019 mode?<\/h2>\n

Step 1: <\/strong>Launch the \u2018Settings<\/strong>\u2019 app and select the \u2018Control Centre<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/strong>: Select \u2018Customise Controls\u2019.<\/p>\n

Step 3:<\/strong> Tap on the \u2018+<\/strong>\u2019 icon next to \u2018Do not Disturb While Driving<\/strong>\u2019 to add it under the \u2018Include<\/strong>\u2019 section.<\/p>\n

Step 4: <\/strong>Launch Control Centre on your iPhone by swiping downwards from the top-right corner of your screen (for iPhones with the Face ID login feature) or swiping upwards from the bottom edge of the screen (for iPhones with a Home button).<\/p>\n

Step 5: <\/strong>Tap on the \u2018Car<\/strong>\u2019 icon (\u2018Do NOT Disturb While Driving\u2019 button) in the control centre.<\/p>\n

Thereby, you can activate this \u2018Do Not Disturb While Driving\u2019 setting when you are on vacation, sick, or simply whenever you wish not to be disturbed and dragged away by official calls and messages.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> If the caller calls you disabling the caller ID, or if you have switched off your phone, or if you have switched to Aeroplane mode, or if you are in a no-signal zone, your iPhone will not be able to send an auto-reply.<\/p>\n
